Maria Tatar is the John L. Loeb Professor of Germanic Languages and Literatures at Harvard, where she chairs the Folklore and Mythology Program. She teaches courses in German studies, folklore and children’s literature.
Tatar is the author of The Annotated Brothers Grimm and edited the Norton Critical Edition of The Classic Fairy Tales, which examines the fairy tale genre, its cultural implications and its critical history.
