Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness Fall Peace Forum

November 8 at 2 p.m.
Church of the Apostles on 1850 Marietta Ave., Lancaster

Keynote speech by Robert Edgar, CEO of Common Cause

Robert Edgar is president and chief executive officer of Common Cause, a grassroots nonprofit committed to government reform. Common Cause’s stated goal is to make the American government more honest, open and accountable, and to connect citizens with their democracy.

Edgar was general secretary of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA for seven years immediately before joining Common Cause.

He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1974, part of the congressional class nicknamed “the Watergate babies”— those elected in the wake of the Watergate scandal and who led sweeping reforms of Congress. Edgar served six terms in the House before mounting an unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate in 1986, against now-Sen. Arlen Specter.

He served on Common Cause’s National Governing Board for several years before becoming president.

The lecture is sponsored by CLAS and Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness.
