Ensemble La Bernardinia is one of the most recent additions to Philadelphia’s rich early-music scene. Performing on reproductions of period instruments, the group specializes in chamber music from 1600 to 1750, presented with a refreshing twist and luscious sonority.

While the core ensemble consists of Rainer Beckmann on recorder, Donna Fournier on viola da gamba and Marcia Kravis on harpsichord, guest musicians are invited on a regular basis to explore the extensive, varied repertoire of Baroque chamber music. The group’s name refers to the title of a piece by Italian composer Girolamo Frescobaldi that Ensemble La Bernardinia performed during its debut program.
